After the shock announcement that Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel will be leaving the team at the end of the 2020 season, Motorsport IT are already claiming that McLaren’s Carlos Sainz will take his place at the Scuderia.
Since the news of Vettel’s departure was leaked late on 11th May, fans and journalists have been theorising who will take the German’s seat next season. The favourites thus far have been Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Sainz, and links have been made with Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi.
Despite this, on the very day that Vettel’s departure was officially announced, there are rumours that Sainz already has made an agreement with Ferrari, with details yet to be finalised. Apparently Sainz’s move will be announced in the next 48 hours, which does feel somewhat premature, since Vettel’s departure has just been made official.
As for now, these rumours about Sainz moving to Ferrari are just that, with no confirmation from the Spaniard, Ferrari or McLaren. All eyes are on Ferrari now, to see what they do next.
