This marks the first part in the series where I’ll be sharing my thoughts and opinions on the new 2019 liveries that are being announced throughout this week.
On Monday 11 February, both Toro Rosso and Williams announced their liveries to the world. Let’s take a look, shall we?
Toro Rosso announced the STR14 earlier today, and at first glance, I was not hugely impressed. With a seemingly similar livery to 2018 and 2017, this appeared boring to me.
At a closer look, one can observe differences in the side pods, which look more aggressive than before.
After thinking about this some more, I came to the conclusion that I am a fan of Toro Rosso’s livery, and the fact that they didn’t change it doesn’t make it bad. The deep blue contrasting with the silver and red make it appealing to the eye.
With a new title sponsor, Williams are now Rokit Williams Racing. This new title sponsor has enabled the team to change up their livery, whilst sticking with the more traditional white and blue colour scheme the team is known for.
So far, people have responded to the colour scheme with the same attitude to Marmite – love it or hate it. I for one, am sort of in the middle. I think that perhaps maybe the tone of blue and white make the car look more simple, and less exciting, like people desire the cars to look.
Despite this, I think the shade of blue used is pleasing to the eye, and paired with the red and black writing on the Rokit sponsorship, looks very nice.
Personally, however, I believe that Toro Rosso has the better livery of the two, despite it being unchanged. It reminds me of the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and I think this is applicable in this case.
