Formula 1 tyre suppliers Pirelli have announced that they will be introducing a new tyre compound for the 2018 season, and have asked fans of the sport to chose the name.
The new compound is pink, reflecting the design that was used for the ultrasoft tyre during the US Grand Prix weekend for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
This has come after calls for tyres to be less conservative were heard, as the tyre manufacturer announced the pink tyre will be softer than the ultrasoft.
On Twitter, Pirelli has asked fans to decide the new name for the tyre, giving the options of megasoft, extremesoft and hypersoft.
In 2017, Pirelli currently offers five tyre compounds – hard, medium, soft, supersoft and ultrasoft, as well as intermediate and wet tyre to be used in wet conditions.
