Jos Verstappen has put pressure on Red Bull Racing to produce a competitive car in 2018 or his son Max Verstappen’s future will become “complicated”.
These comments come after reliability issues have plagued the Dutchman for the majority of the first half of the season, leaving him in 6th place in the Driver’s Championship, with less than half the points tally of his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo.
As we enter the ‘silly season’, where speculation arises about who will go where in 2018, Verstappen has been linked with Ferrari since neither current drivers Sebastian Vettel or Kimi Raikkonen’s contracts are locked in for next season.
Although Jos Verstappen denies that talks have happened between himself and the Scuderia, he has warned Red Bull that they need to provide a competitive car next season.
“Max wants to become a champion and he will do anything to win,” Jos spoke to Dutch broadcaster RTL GP.
“Right now he does not have such an opportunity, but he uses this year to become stronger.
“Next year, it is clear what our goals are. We want to win, and if this does not happen, the situation will become more complicated.“
