Hulkenberg: Renault ‘on target’ to return to front of F1

Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg has stated that the team are on the right track in their quest to return to the top of Formula 1.

18 months have passed since the French team bought out struggling Lotus, and since then have found themselves amongst midfield battles with Williams and Haas.

Hulkenberg left Force India last year for Renault due to their ‘works team’ label and title-winning history, and so far the German has secured all of Renault’s points so far this season.

However, despite their understated start to the 2017 season, Hulkenberg believes that the team is not struggling in any way, and is ready to take small steps to the front of the grid.

The team is moving in the right direction,” Hulkenberg spoke.

There is a lot of good stuff coming and in the pipeline for a later point in the season. All the signs are good and encouraging.

We are on target and we are where l expected us to be.
“The target is that in two or three years’ time we will be winning races,” he spoke to Sky F1.
Our dream is to reach the top team again and our target is to fight for the championship by 2020,” Team Boss Cyril Abiteboul added.
However, Hulkenberg has recognised that the team’s success won’t come immediately, and they have to be patient.
The gap to the front is big,” the German spoke.
We need a lot of performance. Next year, we want to be well into the top 10 all the time, so we have to make a big step to fulfil those expectations.
