Raikkonen leads final test at Silverstone

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen leads the final day of testing at Silverstone following last weekend’s British Grand Prix.

Raikkonen topped the timesheets with a best lap time of 1:30.665 on Pirelli’s soft tyres, after completing a total of 103 laps during the day.

We’ve been doing our normal testing work, trying different things. We’ve tried to find good things,” Raikkonen spoke.

We always expect more as a team in terms of results. That’s Ferrari: we want to win and keep working. We believe we can still win and we don’t want to give up, but improve.

Below the Finn on the timesheets was upcoming driver Esteban Ocon, who is a part of the Mercedes-Benz driver development programme, after clocking a total amount of 139 laps in the Mercedes. Ocon also drove during FP1 at the British Grand Prix for Renault, finishing that session in nineteenth, above Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson and Manor’s Pascal Wehrlein and Rio Haryanto.

Esteban Ocon finished second, behind Raikkonen.

Junior driver Pierre Gasly drove in the Red Bull, slotting in a time of 1:31.429 which managed to put him into third for the day, ahead of Force India’s reserve driver Nikita Mazepin, the test for whom was his first experience of Formula 1.

McLaren reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne drove today in place of Fernando Alonso, who has driven on the opening day of testing at the track. Vandoorne finished fifth, with a time of 1:31.764, completing 114 laps across the day.

Manor driver Pascal Wehrlein drove a 2014-spec Mercedes during the test today as he focused on testing Pirelli’s 2017 tyre compounds, and as a result of which was the slowest of the day.

Wehrlein ran on unmarked tyres as he tested Pirelli’s 2017 tyre compounds on a 2014-spec Mercedes.

Williams’ Valtteri Bottas also ran a double decker rear wing on his car during the final hour of the session.
