Formula 1 is set to revert back to the 2015 qualifying format, it has been decided today by the FIA and Bernie Ecclestone.
There has been an intense day of discussion regarding this issue, and eventually the FIA came to the conclusion that it would be best for the sport if it returned to last year’s qualifying.
It has also been revealed that there was a letter written to the FIA from all 11 teams, requesting the return, as well as support from Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt to return to the previous format.
In light of this unanimous agreement, it became clear to the FIA that their best bet was to return to the previous format of qualifying.
There will be an official process taking place for the rule changes to be put through the f1 Strategy Group and the f1 Commission, so that the changes can be confirmed by the FIA’s World Motorsport Council. Hopefully, this should be completed by the Chinese Grand Prix, the weekend after the next.
