Jolyon Palmer is expectant that former Lotus driver Romain Grosjean will help in boosting Haas in its first season this year.
Throughout his time at Lotus, Palmer worked with Grosjean in 2015, authorising the Frenchman’s practice sessions in order for him to gain experience in an Formula 1 car.
At the end of 2015, Grosjean decided to leave Lotus before its takeover by Renault, joining new team Haas’ operation for the 2016 season.
When question wether Grosjean will be a help in boosting Haas in its debut season, Palmer was positive about his former colleague.
“I think he’ll be good, yeah. He’s a quick driver, he’s experienced,” Palmer reported. “He knows what he wants from the car. So he’ll be pushing hard with them.”
Haas has made an impressive debut in pre-season testing in the past week at Barcelona, totalling in nearly 300 laps in the total four days between the drivers.
Although it is difficult now to judge how Haas will perform in Grand Prix’s, Palmer reckons that Haas will be caught up in the mid-field battle.
“They’ve started pretty reasonably. They’re getting some laps in, they’re looking quite reasonable,” Palmer spoke. “So I’m sure they’re in a different league to the HRTs, the Virgins when they came in. I’m sure they’ll be in the mix somewhere in the midfield.”
